How many fire safety helpers are required?
The required number of fire safety and evacuation helpers is determined by the individual risk assessment carried out within each organisation. DGUV Information 205-023 in conjunction with the Technical Rules for Workplaces (ASR A2.2) serves as the guideline for establishing the necessary number.
In organisations with a normal fire risk, a proportion of at least 5% of employees is generally considered sufficient.
Depending on the nature of the work, fire risk level, size of the premises, number of persons present, or special conditions such as limited mobility, a higher proportion may be required.
Shift work, annual leave, sickness, and continuing education must also be factored into planning to ensure that sufficient trained helpers are always available.
